March 4, 2008 Lisle, IL

Dear Math Kangaroo Team Leaders in USA,

we are getting close to March 27. Thank you for your feedback and help with preparing Math Kangaroo 2008.

You will receive two parcels from us shortly.

This week packages with t-shirts and gifts have been shipped out via UPS by our Vendor, Edi Marketing, to all centers outside Chicago – Metro. The packages contain:

-         t-shirts for all participants, and for you,

-         zipper pouches, (each contains a pencil and a ruler), for all participants,

-         Wolfram Mathematica CDs for participants at levels 8 through 12. This is a gift from iSabio.com Company for Math Kangaroo 2008 participants,

-         fliers from our affiliated organizations, iSabio.com and Chicago Math, with their kind request of distributing them among students,

-         our book for each of you and more books for those who ordered them – thank you!

Next week we will mail you packages with

-         Envelopes with questions for all participants,

-         Answer forms for all participants,

-         Diplomas of participation for all participants,

-         Envelope in which you will mail the answer forms back to us on March 28.

If you do not receive your packages by March 18, please e-mail me.

In Chicago – Metro all the material will be distributed in the time frame, March 13 – March 18.

Please examine each parcel carefully right after you receive it. If you have too many pieces, please keep them for unexpected situations unless you have twice as many pieces as you need. If you lack anything, please e-mail me and there will be enough time for us to send you what is missing.

Please do not open the envelopes with questions before the competition starts.

The answer form will be the same like last year and I plan to display it on our web page on Sunday.

Please ask your students to verify that their answer forms display their names and proper levels.  You can manually correct discrepancies on a card label.

Please ask the students to work only on side A of the answer form.

Please provide extra paper for the students for their calculation. We will reimburse you for that upon your request, up to $2.50 or as much as your purchase proof shows, please send it with the answer forms.

The level 2 participants need 60 minutes to work on the test. All others need 75 minutes. No calculators are allowed. Pencils are provided in the pouches.

If the competition in your place ends before 4 o’clock, please ask the students to pack their questions and scratch paper in envelopes, mark them with their names and leave with you until the following day.

I believe you all have already contacted your participants with the date, time and address details. Because of security concerns the information will not be displayed on Internet like last year. If people are calling our office about your place details, your telephone number will be provided.

About a week before the test, please take a moment and contact the families of your participants with e-mail one more time. Congratulate them on their participation and wish them good luck. Make a note that if anybody does not show up on March 27 because of illness of severe weather, they can claim their questions, t-shirt, and gift/gifts by April 10, 2008. Ask them to contact you about that.

Please use things that will be left, the way you like – to promote Math Kangaroo in your community.

Let March 27 event be the joyful and awarding to all involved.

Warm Regards,

Maria Omelanczuk
