2007 Questions

Q. When and how will I know the results?
A: The top winners will be announced on www.mathkangaroo.org in April/May and invited for Awards Ceremony if there is one or they will be sent the prizes. Local leaders will get in touch with families of the top winners in April/May. Parents can contact Math Kangaroo in USA Headquarters in May – August for information about detail results of their children – the information will be displayed the web site in May.

Q. If students finish the test early, can they leave the classroom ?

A. Parents need to be advised that they need to take care of their children after they leave the classroom and if parents are waiting, students who finish need to leave the classroom. You must not have children unattended.

Q. If I have to bubble the id's before the event, I will have to open the packet. Are the question papers in a sealed envelope ?

A. Answer Forms are outside the question packages which are closed.

Q. Do the students need to bring in anything with them. Are we also providing erasers ? Do they need to get the geometric tools ?

A. We sent to schools pencils and erasers. Students can bring their own pencils and geometric tools but they cannot bring in calculators.

Q. We have a doubt about how do kids score 4 points or 3 points for a problem, whether they have to show work . We did not understand , how

points are awarded for each math problem.

A. Each question has a value. For levels 2, 3, 4 there are 8 questions 3 points each, 8 questions 4 points each, 8 questions 5 points each.

For other levels, there are 10 questions 3 point each, 10 questions 4 point each, 10 questions 5 point each. If student answers properly a question of value 4, he/she receives 4 points; if he/she does not answer the question, he/she receives 0 points. Student does not need to show his/her work.  This is a multiple choice test.

 

Q.  Are penalty points deducted for wrong answers or guessing?
A.  No penalty points.
 
Q. What happens if there are two answers marked for a problem?
A.  Student will receive 0 (zero) points even if one answer is correct.  Make sure he/she erases one answer and only one is left for scoring, even if this is guessed choice
